Aerospace Industry

In the aerospace industry, components often feature complex and intricate geometries, which necessitate precision and tight tolerances during their manufacture to ensure they function as intended. Additionally, due to their—generally—critical role in aerospace systems and operations, they must be durable and offer reliable performance even when exposed to high-stress environments.

To meet the high standards of the industry, many manufacturers use precision machining and casting to produce high-quality aerospace parts and products. These manufacturing methods offer a number of advantages. For example, casting provides capabilities for more elaborate designs, varied part size and weight, and superior surface finishes, while machining allows for tighter tolerances and enhanced part performance.

At Impro, we employ a variety of precision machining and casting techniques to create aerospace components that meet both industry standards and customer requirements. To support our machining and casting operations, we also offer in-house heat and surface treatment and inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT) to ensure our customers receive high-quality, high-performance products that meet their exact needs. These additional services allow us to provide one-stop-shop solutions.

Our capabilities include:

  • 4-axis and 5-axis precision machining for materials such as bar stock, billets, forgings, and plates made from aluminum, alloy steel, stainless steel, and superalloys
  • Investment casting for aluminum, low alloy steel, stainless steel, and superalloys in sizes ranging from a few ounces to 100 pounds
  • Permanent mold casting for aluminum parts up to 16 inches in diameter or length and 35 pounds in weight
  • Shell mold casting for aluminum parts up to 12 inches in diameter or length and 30 pounds in weight
  • Heat treatments including vacuum gas cooling, vacuum oil cooling, aluminum alloy heat treating, gas nitriding, cold stabilization, stress relieving, and tempering and aging
  • Surface treatments such as anodizing, chemical conversion coating, passivation, plating, stress and embrittlement relief, etching, painting, and dry film application
  • NDT and laboratory testing including X-ray analysis, fluorescent penetrant inspection, and magnetic particle inspection

For the aerospace industry, some of the typical finished products we produce include housings, mounts, nozzles, engine rings, and valves. These and other components find application in a wide range of aerospace systems, such as air and fuel systems, engines and engine management systems, and landing systems.
