A Global Supplier Provides Regional Supply Solutions – Learn How Impro Can Meet Your Needs from Mexico

November 8th, 2022

Recent years have seen supply chain and logistics issues come sharply into focus. To address this, and add much needed capacity, Impro recently opened a large new factory in central Mexico. Located in San Luis Potosi, this serves customers with operations in Mexico and further afield.

Giving customers the benefits of the USMCA trade deal, trucks can reach Brownsville, TX in hours, and factories and warehouses throughout the US and Canada in just a few days.

The 1.2M square feet factory currently performs sand casting and precision machining. An investment casting plant will soon start production, alongside a dedicated aerospace parts operation and a surface treatment center under construction.

Industries Served

Today the new factory manufactures castings and undertakes precision machining for automotive and industrial customers. End applications of parts produced include:

  • Automotive
  • Agricultural machinery
  • Construction equipment
  • Hydraulic systems
  • High horsepower engines
  • Recreational vehicles

In addition, the dedicated aerospace components manufacturing operation will let us serve customers in aerospace, medical, and energy customers throughout North America.

Casting Capabilities

Sand casting capacity is currently 45,000 tons per year and will grow further. Our automated sand casting lines have a maximum flask size of 1,300×1,000×350/350 mm (51x39x13.78/13.78”) and can produce pieces weighing up to 400 kg (882 lbs).

At present, investment casting consists of two lines, each with a capacity of 1,500 tons per year. These cast stainless, alloy and carbon steel with a maximum part size and weight of 1,000 mm (39”) and 100 kg (220 lbs.) A Phase 2 expansion will add another 3,000 tons per year of casting capacity.

Precision Machining Capabilities

Impro has had precision machining operations in Mexico since 2016. Throughout 2021 this was progressively moved over to the new San Luis Potosi precision machining plant.

Using modern CNC equipment, machining capabilities include:

  • Turning (up to 140mm diameter)
  • Milling (up to 1300×550×635 mm)
  • Gun drilling
  • Grinding
  • Heat treatment
  • Deburring
  • Automated inspection
  • Automated assembly

Plants Under Construction

Our dedicated aerospace components plant will carry out investment casting, heat treatment, machining, surface treatment and inspection/NDT of aluminum, stainless steel, alloy steel, and superalloys. Machining will handle bar stock, plates, ingots, billets, and forgings.

Surface treatment and/or finishing is integral to many automotive, industrial and aerospace parts. On completion, our San Luis Potosi factory will be able to plate, coat and perform other treatments as needed by our customers.

Solving Supply Chain Challenges

We understand customers in technically challenging industries want suppliers they can talk to easily and trust. We know they also want dependable quality, the ability to introduce design changes quickly, and to take advantage of beneficial trade arrangements between nations.

These needs prompted us to invest in a large new factory in central Mexico. Currently occupying 1.2M square feet, there’s still space to grow and expansion is feasible to meet customer demands.
